As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, youth participation will be critical not only at the ballot box but also in shaping public discourse, demanding accountability, evaluating political choices, countering misinformation, and promoting peaceful democratic participation. However, meaningful electoral participation requires more than simply showing up on election day. Young people need access to accurate information about the electoral process, an understanding of their rights and responsibilities, the ability to critically assess political information, and the confidence to engage political actors on issues that affect their lives.
This podcast seeks to create an accessible platform for young Nigerians to reflect on their preparedness for the next general election. In this episode, we explore what young people know, what concerns them, what they need to participate more effectively in Nigeria’s democratic process and most importantly, why they should participate in the elections.
