We are excited to announce the successful launch of Project ETHICS, a strategic Malta-Step Up Nigeria partnership dedicated to institutionalizing ethics education and values-based learning in Ghanaian schools. The high-level event was graciously hosted by the High Commissioner of Malta in Ghana, whose leadership and strategic coordination were central to its success. The Malta High Commission serves as the principal partner of this important initiative.
Step Up Nigeria is proud to lead the advocacy for ethics and integrity education in Africa through this Ghana pilot with project ETHICS. We are working in close collaboration with the Ministry for Education, Malta, Young Visionary Leaders Ghana, and Dynamic Works Foundation.
For eight years, we have championed moral and integrity education and, our Director of Programmes, Oluwaferanmi Iyanda stressed the need to expand ethics education to other African countries, recognizing it as vital for building integrity, responsible citizenship, and ethical leadership to address today’s challenges.
The launch received strong endorsement from Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Ghana’s Minister for Education, who expressed the Government’s commitment to introducing Ethics as a subject in the national school curriculum. This partnership creates a truly co-owned programme anchored in Ghanaian priorities while drawing on Malta’s rich expertise.
Roger Tirazona Head of Ethics Education at the Ministry for Education, Malta, delivered a powerful keynote, emphasizing that true ethics education goes beyond knowledge, it builds critical thinking, moral reasoning, and the daily practice of values like integrity, empathy, and responsibility.
The event brought together a distinguished gathering, including:
- HRH Oheneba Yaw Otchere
- H.E. Rune Skinnebach, EU Ambassador to Ghana
- H.E. Rosemary Mbabazi, High Commissioner of Rwanda to Ghana
- Senior diplomats from Nigeria & Ethiopia
- Nii Doodo Dodoo, Country Director, British Council Ghana
- And many senior officials from government, education, and civil society.
This moment reaffirms our shared belief: ethics education is essential for building resilient communities, strong institutions, and ethical leaders for the future. We extend our deepest gratitude to the High Commissioner and Malta High Commission in Ghana, the Ministry for Education, Malta, the Ghana Ministry of Education, and all our partners for their vision and commitment.
