Lagos State Government Officially Approves Step Up Nigeria to Train Basic Education Teachers on Anti-Corruption

In a significant move to strengthen values-based education in public schools, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has given formal approval to Step Up Nigeria to train teachers on integrating anti-corruption education into the basic education curriculum.

The approval letter, dated 30th March, 2026, and signed by the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Mrs. O. O. Beckley, grants Step Up Nigeria permission to conduct a virtual training programme for selected teachers across 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in Lagos State.

Key highlights of the approval:

  • The training is completely free (at no cost to the Board, LGEAs, or participating schools).
  • It focuses on anti-corruption education to help teachers embed the principles of integrity, transparency, and moral values in their pupils from an early age.
  • The programme is designed to complement the efforts of the Lagos State Government in improving the quality of basic education.
  • Training sessions are held virtually every Saturday in the month of April 2026.

Commenting on the partnership, the LASUBEB letter states:

“I am directed to convey the Board’s Approval for your Organization to train thirty (30) teachers and Headteachers of the selected schools… The Board appreciates this noble gesture as it complements the efforts of the State Government at improving Basic Education…”

Selected Participants

A total of 30 teachers (mostly teaching Social Studies and Primary Education) from various LGEAs including Agege, Kosofe, Ikorodu, Surulere, Alimosho, Ojo, Lagos Island, Mushin, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Mainland, Ifelodun, Badagry, Apapa, Isolo, and Ikeja have been selected to participate in the programme.

The full list of approved participants, along with their schools and contact details, has been officially shared by LASUBEB with Step Up Nigeria.

Why This Matters

This partnership represents a major milestone in the fight against corruption at the grassroots level. By equipping teachers with the right tools and knowledge, Step Up Nigeria and LASUBEB are ensuring that the next generation of Lagosians grows up with strong ethical foundations — right from primary school.

The virtual training is already underway, and early feedback from participating teachers has been overwhelmingly positive.

Step Up Nigeria remains committed to working hand-in-hand with the Lagos State Government to deliver impactful, values-driven education that will help build a more transparent and prosperous society.
