Building bridges to combat corruption through a community of integrity champions, fostering enhanced service delivery in Nigeria…
Hello Stepper!!!
Welcome back from the summer break! We hope your time off has inspired a renewed commitment to good governance and integrity. In this edition of our monthly newsletter, we share insights from our annual stakeholders’ reflection session. We also highlight the progress made toward building a community of integrity champions across all levels of society. This includes the 13th cohort of the Step Up Nigeria Teachers Training, strengthening our membership engagements, and celebrating young changemakers around the world. Let’s dive in 🎉

EMPOWERING EDUCATORS TO FIGHT CORRUPTION IN SCHOOLS THROUGH OUR TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

Behind every leader who chooses integrity and every child who learns the difference between right and wrong, there is a teacher. In August, we welcomed the thirteenth cohort of teachers into our training program. Educators from across Nigeria collaborated and discussed ways to institutionalize values and ethics education in schools. We recognize that without teachers, there would be no values to pass on, no conscience to guide us, and no voices to rise against corruption. That’s why our work with educators goes beyond training; it is about co-creating lessons that will serve as a lifelong tool to “vaccinate” children against corruption from an early age.

ANNUAL STAKEHOLDER REFLECTION SESSION: BUILDING STRONGER ANTI-CORRUPTION INITIATIVES

In August, we held our annual stakeholder reflection session, bringing together partners and beneficiaries from Lagos, Nasarawa, and the FCT for a virtual dialogue. For seven years, stakeholder insights have been pivotal in driving positive change, and this session helped us gather feedback to shape even more impactful initiatives. Highlights included how Step Up Nigeria inspired the training of Lagos Education District 2 counselors on ethics and values—building a strong base for future anti-corruption champions. Schools also shared the transformative impact of the Do It Right board game and anti-corruption storybooks, which have sparked vital conversations on integrity and encouraged students to uphold honesty even without supervision.

INTEGRITY IN ACTION: CELEBRATING YOUNG VOICES FOR CHANGE

This year’s International Youth Day was a reminder that young people are not just dreamers, they are doers. True change begins when dreams are transformed into local solutions that drive global impact. At Step Up Nigeria, we believe that young people play a vital role in building a transparent and accountable society by upholding values that strengthen their communities. Every act of integrity, no matter how small, contributes to the bigger fight against corruption. Are you a young changemaker taking action in your school, workplace, or community? We want to hear your story! Call or send a WhatsApp message to our Integrity Hotline: 09120345659 and share how you’re shaping your community with integrity.

STRONGER TOGETHER: LAUNCHING A COMMUNITY OF CHANGEMAKERS

In August, Step Up Nigeria held its first-ever Membership Meeting. This virtual meet-and-greet connected our registered Steppers, including passionate individuals from more than 15 states across Nigeria, eager to replicate our work in their schools, communities, and local governments.
What began as an introductory session quickly grew into a movement as members pledged to engage key stakeholders across their states towards the institutionalization of anti-corruption education in schools, promote values-based learning in school curricula and within their communities to foster integrity and ethical conduct among young learners, and drive initiatives that improve service delivery and accountability at the grassroots.
The Step Up Nigeria Membership Programme is more than a gathering; it is a nationwide network of changemakers determined to build a culture of integrity and help create a better Nigeria for all. You can join our membership programme today by registering HERE: https://bit.ly/SUNMEMBERSHIPLINK

HOW ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER CAN INFLUENCE SOCIETAL STRUCTURES

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, more than 2 billion people worldwide currently lack access to clean water, presenting a crucial opportunity for positive change. In August, we had an enlightening conversation with Cydian Kaufmann, the CEO of Purewater Northwest, and Feranmi Iyanda, Director of Programmes at Step Up Nigeria, to explore the significant impact of clean water access. They discussed the importance of protecting public health, improving education, empowering economies, and strengthening the foundations of our communities. From life-saving interventions to long-term social change, you can learn how to ensure clean water and help create a healthier, more equitable future.
