ANTI-CORRUPTION EDUCATION IS COMING TO EDO STATE #EdoWeek2023
We had an incredible time last week at the Edo International Book and Art Festival during the state’s Education Week where our team introduced our anti-corruption storybooks (Emeka’s Money, Halima’s Vote, Tosin’s Story & Ansa’s Speech) at the festival. We also had a virtual reality station where students and attendees were able to watch our virtual reality films; Sherifat’s School and Abike’s Story, bringing the stories to life in a whole new way!
Our Deputy Programme Director, Feranmi Iyanda, also served as a panellist and discussed the topic ‘making books inviting for children and adult readers,’ using our anti-corruption storybooks as a great example of books that appeal to children, donating copies of our anti-corruption storybooks to school libraries.
We met with the Edo state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, the Director for the Edo State Education Resource centre, Mrs. Ero Ugiagbe and even the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, whom we presented our anti-corruption storybooks to. This festival marks the beginning of a wonderful partnership with the Edo state Ministry of Education. We are excited that anti-corruption education is coming to primary and secondary schools in Edo state using our storybooks, and we can’t wait to see the impact it will have!
PROMOTING A CULTURE OF INTEGRITY IN SCHOOLS
We hosted school owners in Lagos state for a briefing session on our Integrity Certification programme which helps schools to build a culture of integrity in their schools by strengthening their academic processes and educational practices while curbing malpractices. EMPOWERING OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN TO TACKLE CORRUPTION
We had an amazing experience reaching out to 176 out-of-school children in Lagos and Abuja slum communities, educating them about fighting corruption and promoting integrity. Despite the language barrier we encountered in one of the communities where the children didn’t understand English, our team found an innovative way to engage them. We used an indigenous version of Halima’s Vote film, which was translated to Egun language by children from another slum community. The children enjoyed the film and gained valuable insights into anticorruption values. They also received anticorruption storybooks to remind them of the lessons learnt. It was a fulfilling experience for us and we are determined to reach more children in diverse communities with our anticorruption message. Here’s how it went…
